Dentures

Dentures are a plastic appliance with plastic or porcelain teeth attached to it. Dentures come in two basic varieties. Complete dentures are removable prostheses that replace all of the natural teeth for a particular jaw. Partial dentures are removable prostheses that replace missing teeth in a jaw where some teeth are still present. To make a denture requires multiple appointments usually about one week apart.

Our objective is to achieve patient satisfaction in the areas of retention, comfort, speech, and esthetics to name a few. Although dentures are designed to simulate a natural dentition, they are not a perfect substitute for our own teeth.

There have not been a lot of technological advances made in denture fabrication over time. However, implant dentistry may be utilized, in certain situations, to support a denture for greater patient satisfaction.

In the United States population we are actually seeing less need for dentures. As dental health and treatment continue to improve people are now able to retain their natural teeth. The success of dental implants has also given patients new options for replacing missing teeth.
