Dr. Etheredge was born in southeast Texas and moved to Anacortes, Washington in his teens. It was as a junior in high school that he first thought about becoming a dentist. Phil's family dentist took him to visit the University of Washington School of Dentistry, and this is where Phil became inspired about a dental career. After high school Phil attended the University of Puget Sound, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then moved on to receive his DDS degree from the University of Washington School of Dentistry. After graduation from dental school Dr. Etheredge began a practice of general dentistry in Kirkland, Washington.
While starting his practice, Dr. Etheredge also worked part-time as a dentist, in several different settings. The first opportunity was a six-month stint with the Indian Health Services. This job was located at the Skokomish Indian Reservation near Shelton, Washington. Afterwards he began a six-year course of work with the Puget Sound Neighborhood Health Centers. These are part of a network of clinics that serve low-income populations. Dr. Etheredge also worked for six years for a privately run Eastside Emergency Dental Services as an on-call dentist.
In 1994, Dr. Etheredge became involved with an organization know as Medical Teams International. The mission of MTI is to bring medical and dental care to the most marginalized people in undeserved localities and countries. Through this organization, Dr. Etheredge has had an opportunity to go on various international dental missions to Central American countries.
Outside of work, Dr. Etheredge's other passion is the summer tennis camp that he founded in 2006, the Micah 6:8 Tennis and Social Justice Camp. The focus is to teach tennis to teens at the beginner’s level along with a social justice teaching component.
Dr. Etheredge and his wife, Julie, live in Woodinville. They have three children. Lindsay attends the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Nicholas will be attending the University of Portland School of Engineering. Maria will be a sophomore at Woodinville High School.
