Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal disease has become one of the primary focal areas of dental evaluation. It is a very prevalent disease in the adult population and its impact is profound. Periodontal disease is a disease process that afflicts and permanently damages the gum tissues and the bone. Periodontal disease is defined when there is any level of bone loss at the crest of the bone ridge holding the teeth.

In our office, we start with examination and assessment of the periodontium. We then explain our findings and diagnosis. We do our best to educate patients of this disease in a way that is appropriate and relevant to them. If you want to learn more about this disease, download our article, Ten Things You Should Know About Periodontal Disease.

There is an increasing awareness of a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other disorders.

Most treatment for periodontal disease is conservative, meaning that the care is provided either in the general dental office or at home. Today, that includes education on the nature of the disease, customized oral hygiene instruction, specific dental cleanings, and even some pharmacology-based approaches.
