This treatment is necessary when the tissue inside the tooth’s inner chamber and canal system becomes diseased to a point where it cannot repair itself. The tissue is known as the pulp and contains both dental nerves and blood vessels. It can become either dead tissue or irreversibly inflamed. In either case the pulp must be removed and the root canals must be instrumented in a particular way and sealed with a special material.
We perform root canals on teeth with simple canal systems and refer the more complex treatments to a root canal specialist known as an endodontist. If this is necessary we usually provide the initial diagnosis and occasionally the preliminary therapy prior to referring. We have referred to the same endodontic office since the beginning of our practice. The care and treatment provided in this office is exemplary.
